What to Expect

A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation typically requires 14-16 hours of time (face-to-face with the client and clinical time). This includes the initial intake/clinical interview with the client (and parents/guardians if applicable), test administration and scoring, integration of results into a written report, and a feedback appointment to discuss results and recommendations. Face-to-face visits with the client typically takes place over the course of two appointments.

Prior to the Initial Appointment

The client (or their parent/guardian) will complete intake paperwork, including a history form. Forms will be sent via email after scheduling.

Intake and Testing Appointment

Initial appointments begin at 9:00 AM. Adult clients and parents/guardians of pediatric clients meet with the psychologist and participate in a comprehensive clinical interview in which they review the reason for the evaluation and relevant background information. The client will then complete 4-6 hours of face-to-face testing with the technician. Breaks are provided as needed and there is a 1-hour lunch break in which the client can leave the office to get lunch (or eat lunch that was brought). The day typically concludes between 2:30-3:30 PM.

After the Initial Appointment

The measures that were completed during the testing appointment will be scored. For pediatric clients, parents and teachers will complete online questionnaires that will be emailed to them. Any needed collateral information will be collected from individuals that we received your permission to contact (e.g., pediatrician/primary care providers, psychiatrists, therapists, schools, etc.). The psychologist will prepare a comprehensive written report summarizing the evaluation results and recommendations.

Feedback Appointment

After the completion of the evaluation, the client and/or their parents/guardians will meet with the psychologist to discuss the results. This appointment typically takes place about 2-3 weeks after the testing appointment and can be in person or via telehealth. The psychologist will review neurocognitive strengths and weaknesses, diagnoses, and recommendations. The client will also receive a copy of the written report and relevant resources/handouts.
